Job Description/Requirements

US ECOLOGY TEXAS, a leader in the waste disposal industry is seeking a Health &Safety Specialist to facilitate the Health & Safety program(s) at our facility in Robstown, TX. The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting the planning and direction of safety and health programs and establishing the maintenance of a safe, accident free and healthy work environment by performing the following:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assisting EHS manager as directed.
• Inspects facility to identify existing or potential physical and health hazards, and to ensure company activities are    conducted in a safe manner, according to company, industry and regulatory (e.g.; OSHA) safety and health standards.
• Inspects site, machines and equipment for accident prevention devices.
• Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment such as glasses, helmets, goggles, respirators, and clothing.
• Trains employees in health and safety matters.
• Inspects specified areas for fire prevention equipment and other safety and first aid supplies.
• Tests working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards.
• Prepares reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
• Compiles and submits reports required by regulatory agencies and company management.
• Investigates accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program.
• Works with employees to obtain compliance with procedures, rules and regulations.
• Updates manuals and recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness.
• Maintains ordering and distributing of safety equipment, uniforms and supplies.
• Maintains health and safety library and training resources
• Demonstrates use of safety equipment.

REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree (BS) in a scientific field or a combinations of relevant education (Associate’s degree) with a minimum of 18 months of specialty education/training in the field of occupational health and safety, plus one to two years of experience in related work or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common regulatory, scientific and technical journals and to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies.
